4 Things I Learned in September

I learned a few new things in September.
  1. I am adverse to most change; however, I have already found two things I like about the new iOS 7. The first is the new calendar. I am so greatly relieved that they finally improved the calendar.  The second thing, which I find very handy, is when I swipe up from the bottom of the screen I can access a flashlight, stopwatch and calculator toot suite. There are several other handy options with that swipe, but those are my favs.
  2. The bottom crisper drawer of our refrigerator was dead to me until this month. I would put things in there and remember a month later the bag of apples or Costco sized spinach. The drawer just above it got regular use but for some reason that bottom drawer was always forgotten. UNTIL I started putting the beer in there. Problem solved.
  3. A quick swish in a cup of rubbing alcohol and your make-up brushes are clean as a whistle. I actually learned that last year but it was so helpful I wanted you to know this trick too.
  4. The Jimmy Fallon lip sync-off made me laugh so hard I snorted. A few times.

I'm linking up with Emily Freeman and her community at Chatting at the Sky where she is sharing what she learned and one involves how we have been using the restaurant ketchup cups wrong.

Did you learn anything new in September?

I Might Be Too Old For This

I like to get a manicure and a pedicure once a month-ish and I always bring my own color, Revlon Scene Stealer for my nails and OPI Red for my toes.

But this month I mixed it up. WAY UP. It's been fun for a few days. Alan calls it springtime M&M's.  What's your favorite nail polish?

12 Inches

Last year on December 12th I had 12 inches of my hair cut off. Apparently you aren't supposed to make major changes to your hair when you are pregnant. Why? Is it because you are already going through major changes? Thankfully, I didn't know about this rule until after I had my haircut.

I went to the Aveda Salon where I have been getting my hair trimmed for the last few years and I thought the owner was going to do a dance when I told her I wanted it short. I love the cut and haven't even considered letting it grow out. It' s super short in the back and longer in the front and takes about 5 minutes to blow dry. I had the same haircut in 1990. Way back then I think we called it a reverse bob. And you thought Posh Spice was the first one.

You Are Going to Want One of These

Last week I was checking out Notes from a Cottage Industry and saw the cutest pendant. I immediately ran over to Lipstick and Laundry and got one for myself. The beads are vintage and it is the perfect size.
The day I got home from the hospital it was in my mailbox. Even the wrapping was cute! It was packed up in a little nest with this adorable tag...I love the details! I think I will hang the tag in Chloe's room.

Eyebrows

Why is it that every time I go for a manicure, pedicure, or in this case an extra special spa day, when I am checking out they always say "You like eyebrow wax?" My response is always the same, "No thank you, I have no eyebrows as it is, if I get them waxed there won't be anything left." I crafted this response a few years ago when I was asked this question and responded "No, thank you" and this tiny little Asian woman returned with "You need!"

Maybe I am blind and I actually do need an eyebrow wax. I wish I did. I watch The Martha Stewart Show. I see Eva Scrivo doing amazing things by just changing a woman's brow shape. But when I look in the mirror I see a hint of a brow that can barely be filled in with a pencil to make it look fuller without looking like I took a crayon to my face.

(Note: last month I realized the brow brush I was using to fluff the aforementioned brows and brush the bare minerals makeup away may have been stripping me of precious eyebrows. It took weeks of inflicting daily pain along with questioning why my brows seemed to be getting ever thinner to realize the thing was to coarse.)

I am open to all sorts of comments and advice in the eyebrow department. So what do you think? (Other than, "It looks like Noah inherited the no eyebrow look from his mama.")
p.s. Can you believe I have been out with the flu for days on end and the first post I can drum up is about eyebrows? Sorry friends, I am still not up to full speed yet. And I have officially reached the most uncomfortable part of pregnancy...the last 5 weeks. I still love being pregnant.
