The Cost of Clutter

I paid a price this weekend for the clutter I have allowed to pile up on the island in our kitchen.

We were without our name tags at Financial Peace University last night. They were buried in that pile instead of in the bag with our other class materials.

There was a 10% late fee on our quarterly water bill.  Ouch. The original bill was thrown in that pile when the pile started and it never resurfaced.  That didn't bring a lot of financial peace.

This price seems insignificant in light of the price Jesus paid to save me from death.  When he died for me, and for you, he paid with his life so we could live forever in heaven with God.

I'm so thankful He hasn't left me in a pile of clutter.

I Dropped the (yarn) Ball

Remember that last post when I asked if you would knit a scarf for a teen?  Well, apparently I decided to do a bunch of other things and I didn't knit a scarf for a teen by the February 14th deadline.  Things like...

Reading the bible in 90 days, seeing my baby use the potty for the first time, delivering cookies to the fire house during the blizzard, packing boxes to send to our troops in Iraq, baking PW's tres leches cake for my man's birthday, making fleece blankets for hospice  at the 11th hour.

I'm really bummed I dropped the ball on this opportunity to bless a teen.  I plan on finishing the scarf and contacting the Orphan Foundation of America, hopefully the Red Scarf Project will continue next year...I should be able to finish it by then.  I hate it when my procrastination leads to disappointment.

Don't Wear Earrings to a NASCAR Race

You might think wearing earrings to a NASCAR race is a fine idea...until you put on your radio headset and they push into the side of your neck for 4 hours. Ouchie.
Last week some great friends from our church gave us tickets to last nights race in Richmond. We immediately scheduled my mom for babysitting, filled the fridge with breastmilk and headed to the race. Here is the view from our awesome seats, right across from the exit of Pit Row in turn 1 and right in front of the pole sitters pit box (Denny Hamlin, in case you were dying to know who was on the pole.)
During the national anthem the Blue Angels did an amazing fly over. This part always takes my breath away and makes me so proud to be an American.

Not everyone gets as excited about racing as I do. This little one was fast asleep before the first 100 laps were complete.
And this lady (click on photo to enlarge image) was so beside herself with excitement she started knitting...she was a pro too, one of those that can knit without ever looking at her needles. Unlike the guy on the left, who smoked 1,050 cigarettes during the race. At one point he was half on my seat cushion and ashing on my leg too, but it was worth it.This is us walking out of the track listening to the final laps on the radio. We are smiling so big because we weren't getting pelted with beer cans the fans were throwing after Dale Jr. got wrecked, just as he was about to win the race. And because we were going home to our nice cozy bed.

Don't Do This to Your House

Last summer we were making a delicious dinner on our deck. And then, there was this little mishap with the grill:
When you smell something odd while grilling, it's time to move the grill away from the house.
