Eyebrows

Why is it that every time I go for a manicure, pedicure, or in this case an extra special spa day, when I am checking out they always say "You like eyebrow wax?" My response is always the same, "No thank you, I have no eyebrows as it is, if I get them waxed there won't be anything left." I crafted this response a few years ago when I was asked this question and responded "No, thank you" and this tiny little Asian woman returned with "You need!"

Maybe I am blind and I actually do need an eyebrow wax. I wish I did. I watch The Martha Stewart Show. I see Eva Scrivo doing amazing things by just changing a woman's brow shape. But when I look in the mirror I see a hint of a brow that can barely be filled in with a pencil to make it look fuller without looking like I took a crayon to my face.

(Note: last month I realized the brow brush I was using to fluff the aforementioned brows and brush the bare minerals makeup away may have been stripping me of precious eyebrows. It took weeks of inflicting daily pain along with questioning why my brows seemed to be getting ever thinner to realize the thing was to coarse.)

I am open to all sorts of comments and advice in the eyebrow department. So what do you think? (Other than, "It looks like Noah inherited the no eyebrow look from his mama.")
p.s. Can you believe I have been out with the flu for days on end and the first post I can drum up is about eyebrows? Sorry friends, I am still not up to full speed yet. And I have officially reached the most uncomfortable part of pregnancy...the last 5 weeks. I still love being pregnant.

  1. I am personally obsessed with eyebrows. I have the opposite problem, though. Mine are really, really thick but I also go in for manicures and am bothered by numerous women who want to wax them. I let them do it once and I was very sad with the result - they were too thin and short.

Now, I do them myself, that way I know the person doing them is going to be extra careful and that if she's not, I have no one to blame but myself.

Still, occasionally I get a little carried away and when I do, I use the little eyebrow kit by Senna Cosmetics. It has several shades in it, several small brushes and several stencils, so it's literally fool proof. I've been using it for years and the shapes are natural and it's so easy to use. I've written about it on my blog before if you want to check out the link.

And congratulations on the final stretch of your pregnancy! Take extra special care of yourself...

  2. Tracey..it is 1 am...Bob is asleep next to me, and I am trying so hard to restrain the laughter. That is the funniest post I have seen in a long time. I don't have any advice. I do get mine done occasionally at the nail place down the street and have only had one bad wax job..too thin.. I haven't been recently, but I did inflict some pain on myself tonight with tweezers...oh the joys of being a girl...Oh, and I hope you start feeling better soon! The flu stinks....

  3. I think you are beauteous and they look just fine as is. The only thing I've heard is that you're "supposed to" thin it out above your pupil to open your eye up. Do I give a rat's butt about what people tell me to do? Hardly ever. But it sounded like a decent tip that didn't involve lasering off what you were born with and re-creating it with art supplies.

And here's how I found out my 'brows needed help:

Before our wedding, I went to Sephora for a free makeup consultation. The girl who was working said "You're getting your eyebrows done, right?" Ouch. Nevermind she had ugly orange hair (like, intentionally orange). But somehow my bushy brows were a crime against beauty and all humanity. Oh well!

Feel as well as possible soon. :D

  4. I didn't think this would be the first post I would comment on, but here I am.

All those nail technicians are just jealous of your eyebrows. They can't believe that yours are just naturally that thin.

My favorite Sarah Jessica Parker quote from LA Story comes to mind, but I'll refrain from quoting it.

And thanks for posting my current favorite picture of you!
